They zoom around the track at speeds that surpass the takeoff speed of commercial airliners which causes the grandstands to shake with each passing car.
Yet as they roar around Indianapolis Motor Speedway at speeds of 250 mph, they also have one singular focus in mind: they want to be the one at the end of the race slowing down on a victory lap doing a fist pump out of the cockpit.
The 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 is Sunday, May 27, and there are several drivers who could be drinking milk and kissing the bricks at the Brickyard at the end of that long day. Here’s a rundown of the drivers most likely to ‘’put the smashdown” as our slogan says, at the Indy 500 by doing victorious fist pumps after winning this prestigious race.
1.) Helio Castroneves

The most colorful driver in the IndyCar series, Castroneves is a passionate Brazilian who has pumped his fist three times at Indy. Probably even better known for winning Dancing With The Stars, (at least among the ladies) he wears his emotions on his sleeve and if wins his fourth Indy, you’ll see that sleeve pumping all the way around Indy’s track and into Victory Circle.

2.) Tony Kanaan
Another emotional Brazilian, Kanaan won Indy in 2013 and instantly became one of the series’ most popular drivers among fans. He’s not won a race since 2014 and if he breaks through at Indy, the built-up emotions will come pouring out of his soul directly into several inspired fist pumps.

3.) Will Power
Not only does Power possess the best name for headline writers in sports, he’s got the power to win this race. That’s because this Aussie is powered by the powerful Penske Motorsports team
4.) Alexander Rossi
You may not know this name – yet – but you’ll likely see him at the top of the leaderboard throughout the race. He won the 100th running of the indy 500 two years ago and he’s a threat this year driving for Michael Andretti’s team.

5.) Scott Dixon
This veteran driver has one Indy 500 win in his career and while the Kiwi can be subdued at times, he can also let loose on occasion, such as winning a second Indy.
6.) Simon Pagenaud
Another Penski driver, Pagenaud has the horses behind him to pull out the fist pumps in 2018.
7.) Josef Newgarten
Another Penski driver, Newgarten has a very good chance to win, too. Any car owned and operated by Penske pretty much has a chance to win every year at Indy. Penske drivers have won Indy a phenomenal 16 times.

8.) Danica Patrick
It’s unlikely Patrick will win the race but if she does – especially after retiring from racing except for this event – then she will do so many fist pumps she may not stop until the awards banquet on Monday.
